(GSM) – A pair of first half goals lifted Austria to a surprise 2-1 victory over Denmark on Wednesday as the Danes continued their preparations for June’s World Cup.
The Austrians took the lead in stunning fashion in the 12th minute when Franz Schiemer’s drive from distance flew past a helpless Thomas Sørensen.
But the lead lasted just six minutes as Denmark equalized when Nicklas Bendtner produced a poacher’s goal from close range.
Austria, though, recovered nicely and regained the lead on 40 minutes put one past Sørensen to make it 2-1 heading into half-time.
The Danes never mustered enough for the equalizer, and the Austrians celebrated a solid victory on home soil.
