La Gazzetta dello Sport claims that Zenit midfielder Axel Witsel is a step closer to joining Inter Milan after agreeing personal terms with the Serie A side.
The 27-year-old has accepted a five-year deal worth €3 million per season, but the two clubs have yet to find an understanding with regards to the transfer fee.
Despite the fact that Witsel will be out of contract in the summer, Zenit are holding out for €22 million, while the Nerazzurri have no intention of matching the asking price.
There is a chance that Inter will wait until the latter stages of the summer transfer window to try and renegotiate the deal seeing that the Russians cannot afford the player to enter the final year of his contract.
There have been quite a few other clubs showing interest in Witsel in previous years, but the Nerazzurri recently emerged as strong favourites for his signature.
