Babbel appointed Hertha Berlin coach

Former German international and Stuttgart coach Markus Babbel has been appointed coach of relegated Hertha Berlin, the club announced on Monday.

The 37-year-old, who was sacked by Stuttgart in December, has signed a one-year contract which can be extended if the club return to the Bundesliga in 2010/2011.

During his career, Babbel played with Bayern Munich (1994-2000), Liverpool (2000-04) and Stuttgart (2004-07).
