Ryan Babel has pinpointed former Liverpool director of football Damien Comolli as the reason for his Liverpool departure.

Having been signed for a reported 11.5-million pounds by then Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez, the Hoffenheim winger left Anfield in January last year after failing to impress in his three-and-a-half years at the club.

Shortly after Comolli’s exit from the Anfield club had been announced, Babel took to Twitter to voice his displeasure at the Frenchman, claiming he had been instrumental in selling him.

Babel tweeted: “So Comoli got fired at LFC ?

“Good for LFC.. !”

When asked if Comolli had been the driving force behind Babel’s sale to the German club, Babel replied: “Yes HE was.”

The 25-year-old later went on to claim: “For him it (the sale) was just business..”

Babel made 91 Premier League appearances for the Reds, scoring 12 goals in the process.
