Bayer Leverkusen’s Leon Bailey is apparently keen on a move to the Premier League this summer. According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, talks are scheduled to be held this week between the player, his representatives and the club, to establish an exit strategy, including a suitable transfer fee.
The 22-year-old winger has been watched closely by top European clubs for some time now. As for those playing in the English top flight, Ornstein says Manchester United and Manchester City have both expressed an interest, though reports from elsewhere earlier in the season also spoke of Liverpool and Chelsea.
Leverkusen were believed to be valuing Bailey at around €50 million before the infamous pandemic struck, but the asking price is now expected to drop to around €20m or €30m.
Though a deal could naturally be agreed earlier, Ornstein’s sources tell him the transfer window in the Premier League is likely to open on July 27th and close on October 5th. A shareholders meeting will be held on Thursday, with this very subject among the items on the agenda.
