According to a recent report from Sky Sports News, Everton defender Leighton Baines is considering the possibility of accepting a one year contract offer to remain at the club. The 34 year old only made a handful of appearances last season, and is set to be out of a contract with the Toffees during the summer transfer window. Baines was once considered to be one of the best defenders in English football and potentially even Europe, but at this stage of his life and his career, it certainly seems like he’s winding down. He would likely be used as nothing more than a back up option next season due to the success of Lucas Digne, but it seems likely to suggest that he’d still be a source of interest by a number of well-known clubs even if he decides to leave Goodison Park.
Either way, he’s been a fantastic servant for Everton over the years.
