Tottenham Hotspur winger Gareth Bale has committed his immediate future to the club, but will not rule out a move overseas.
The 21-year-old announced himself on the world stage with several standout performances this season, including a hat-trick against Inter Milan in the Champions League group stage.
The Wales international has since been the subject of speculation linking him with a transfer away from White Hart Lane.
But for now, one of Spurs’ prized assets intends to remain in north London as the English Premier League side prepare to challenge for a return to Europe’s elite club competition.
“Yes, I just signed a new contract recently,” Bale said.
“I fully believe that we’ve got a good enough squad to challenge for the fourth spot next season.”
Despite insisting he would be remaining with Spurs in 2011/12, Bale refused to discount moving on at some point, with Spanish champions Barcelona his first choice.
“I left home when I was 15 and it was quite difficult then but if I have to move abroad then it’s something I wouldn’t be scared of,” he said.
“Barcelona play great, great, football but I’m happy where I am.”
“I’m focused on what we want to achieve as a team next season and I’m enjoying my football here. I’m still 21, I’m getting a good run in the team and I’m still learning my football.”
Bale also hopes Spurs boss Harry Redknapp will be at the club next season – the former West Ham and Portsmouth boss has been linked with the managerial vacancy at Chelsea.
“I don’t think anybody at the club wants to see him go and I’m sure they’re doing all they can to keep him there,” Bale said.
“He’s been massive in what he’s done at the club. When he first came here we were in the relegation zone.”
“He’s taken us from relegation to Champions League and he’s turned us completely upside down and into the team we wanted to be.”
