Tottenham winger Gareth Bale has sung the praises of new recruit Scott Parker after his team-mate caught the eye in their 3-1 defeat of QPR.

The England midfielder has received plaudits for his recent performances as Spurs’ unbeaten streak with the former West Ham man in their starting XI stretches on.

On Sunday, Bale drove home his side’s opening goal before killing the match off with a sweetly executed effort from the edge of the area. However, despite stealing the headlines himself, Bale was quick to nod towards Parker’s steadying influence in the middle of the field.

“He’s a fantastic player, ” said Bale.

“Over the last season he was phenomenal for West Ham and this season, since he’s come here, he’s been unbelievable.”

“He covers every blade of grass over every game and does a very important job for the team. He lets the lads me, [Aaron] Lennon, [Rafael] van der Vaart, [Emmanuel] Adebayor and [Luka] Modric do what we want.”

“He’s massive for our team and we hope he keeps that form up.”

The most recent win at White Hart Lane ensured that Spurs are keeping the heat up on the Premier League’s front runners, with Harry Redknapp’s side now level on points with Chelsea but having a game in hand.

Bale refused to shy away from the suggestion that this is the strongest team at the club since his arrival from Southampton in the summer of 2007 but emphasised that centrality of teamwork to Spurs’ endeavours.

“Yeah I would probably say so,” said Bale when asked if the current Tottenham line-up is the most capable he has played in.

“I think every team in the league is getting stronger now and you have to continue to do that as well.”

“We know every game is going to be hard, but we have to give 110 percent and you have to work hard to even get a point these days.”

“The team’s playing well at the moment. We’re all confident and playing good football.”

“The main thing for us at the moment is that we’re working hard as a team, which always brings victories on the pitch and gives us a good platform to go by.”
