According to reports in Spain, Gareth Bale’s goals in the Champions League final this year led to Zinedine Zidane’s departure. The suggestion is that Bale was set to be sold in the summer, and that the funds from his sale would’ve gone towards Zidane in order for him to bring in some new stars. Alas, Florentino Perez changed his mind after seeing Bale’s heroics against Liverpool, which you could certainly argue contributed to Zidane walking away from the Bernabeu.

There’s no limit to what Zidane could’ve achieved if he had decided to remain at Real, and while he could always return in the future, it seems like the relationship between him and the club isn’t quite as strong as it once was. Still, the Frenchman will likely return to the game sooner rather than later, with Bayern Munich and Manchester United seeming like two of the more likely destinations for him.
