Manchester City striker Mario Balotelli has given evidence in an investigation into organised crime in Naples.
Balotelli is a witness in an anti-mafia case after he was called to testify by Italian police following his visit to an area of Naples known as Scampia in 2010.
Scampia has associations with organised crime and the drugs trade, but Balotelli has always maintained he was just passing through the area in the company of Marco Lorio who is under investigation.
Il Mattino reports an extract of some of the statements Balotelli gave to Italian prosecutors Sergio Amato and Enrica Parascondolo.
Speaking as a witness and nothing more, Balotelli said he was standing “about 10 metres from a table which contained bags of drugs on it.”
Balotelli also said he was only in the area of Scampia visiting friends and he has always maintained he did not know some of the people he met there had alleged associations with organised crime in Italy.
