According to Nice president Jean-Pierre Rivere, Mario Balotelli rejected the chance to jump over to Chinese football in favour of staying in Europe. The 28-year-old striker has always been known for making outlandish moves and decisions in the past, but in this instance, it seems as if he chose pride over money by deciding that he wants to play in a top domestic division with Champions League football.
Balotelli has enjoyed a successful two years with Nice after making the jump over from Liverpool, and appears to be calming down as he approaches his thirties in a few years time. There was apparently more than one significant offer from Asia that was being considered, but in the mind of the Italian, he wants to be able to test himself with the best players and clubs in the world.
Nice have made a relatively poor start to the Ligue 1 season, but they’ll be hoping they can change that against Dijon FCO this weekend.
