Il Corriere dello Sport has revealed that Napoli are pondering a bid for Palermo full-back Federico Balzaretti.
The Azzurri are searching for a new left-back and they have recently been linked with a number of high-profile players.
Lyon’s Aly Cissokho and Udinese full-back Pablo Armero were mentioned as potential targets, but Il Corriere dello Sport claims that boss Walter Mazzarri prefers Palermo defender Federico Balzaretti.
The 30-year-old, who largely impressed playing for Italy at the European Championship, recently stated that he would either stay at Napoli or join Paris Saint-Germain, given that his wife is a prima ballerina at the Paris Opera.
However, the Azzurri are hoping they can persuade the player to join the San Paolo outfit instead.
Napoli president Aurelio de Laurentiis spoke with his Palermo counterpart Maurizio Zamparini about Balzaretti and it appears the two clubs are close to reaching an agreement.
Agreeing personal terms with the defender, nonetheless, could prove to be a much tougher task.
