Banfield cruise past Cuenca in Libertadores

(GSM) – Argentinian side Banfield have taken a comfortable lead in Group 6 of the Copa Libertadores following a 1-4 win at Deportivo Cuenca on Wednesday.

Following a 2-1 win over Morelia in their tournament opener, Banfield remained in good shape for their second game, played in Ecuador.

Walter Erviti put the Argentinians in the lead after 35 minutes and Sebastian Fernandez doubled the advantage three minutes later.

The Uruguayan went on to add another on the hour mark and Colombian James Rodriguez made it 0-4 in minute 71.

Banfield’s Marcelo Bustamante caused a penalty in the 85th minute and received a second yellow card for his offense, and Gabriel Mendez netted from the spot to give Cuenca a consolation goal.

Banfield lead with six points from two games, ahead of Nacional de Montevideo who have three points but played only one game so far. Morelia and Deportivo Cuenca remain without points.
