(GSM) – Banfield took a step toward the Copa Libertadores quarterfinals on Wednesday with a 3-1, first leg win over Internacional in the first knockout round.

After a scoreless first half, Banfield took the lead at 1-0 in the 47th minute as Colombian striker James Rodríguez found the back of the net, but Kléber equalized three minutes later

But Kléber went from hero to villain in just eight minutes when he earned a straight red card to reduce the Brazilian visitors to 10 men.

Roberto Battion immediately took advantage a minute later to give Banfield the 2-1 lead, and the Argentinians sealed the win in the 81st minute as Sebastián Fernández bagged the third goal.

The second leg will take place next week in Porto Alegre.
