(GSM) – Banfield locked up a berth in the Copa Libertadores Round of 16 on Wednesday with a 4-1 victory over Deportivo Cuenca.
The result ensured the Argentine side finish as one of the top six runners-up in the competition to earn a last 16 berth.
After a scoreless first half, Banfield opened the scoring in the 48th minute when Rubén Ramírez put one past Cuenca goalkeeper Esteban Dreer, and Ramírez doubled the lead 20 minutes later.
Cuenca had a chance when they pulled a goal back through Gabriel Méndez four minutes later, but the two-goal lead was restored in the 87th minute on Walter Erviti’s strike.
Cristián Luccethi added a penalty late for Banfield.
