Barca agree deal for Brazilian defender

Catalan daily newspaper Sport is reporting that Barcelona have all but agreed to sign Brazilian full-back Douglas Pereira dos Santos from Sao Paulo.

The Catalans are still on the lookout for a successor to wantaway defender Dani Alves, and the latest reports suggest they have opted to sign his compatriot.

Sport understands that Douglas is set to become Barcelona player after the two clubs agreed on a fee believed to be between €7m and €8m, while the total transfer could be worth up to €12 million.

The fact the 24-year-old was left out of the Sao Paulo squad for yesterday’s match against Bragantino is enough to suggest the deal has reached the final stage.

Douglas arrived at Sao Paulo from Goias in February 2012 and has since made a total of 93 league appearances, scoring 5 goals in the process. The full-back has yet to be handed his Brazil debut, although he did feature in five matches for the Under-20 side.
