Catalan daily newspaper El Mundo Deportivo claims that Borussia Dortmund are set to challenge Barcelona for Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt.
The 18-year-old is believed to be one of Barcelona’s targets for the future alongside Rb Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano, but the Millionaires are keen on his services as well.
It was new Borussia Dortmund coach Peter Bosz who handed De Ligt a first team debut at Amsterdam ArenA, and the 18-year-old has never looked back.
The former Ajax boss has instructed technical secretary Michael Zorc to establish initial contact with the youngster’s employers as the Millionaires could soon submit an official proposal.
Meanwhile, Barcelona officials hope their good relationship with Ajax sporting director Marc Overmars will give them the upper hand in the chase for De Ligt.
