Spanish daily newspaper AS understands that Barcelona and Manchester City are locked in the battle for Borussia Dortmund midfielder Julian Weigl.
The Millionaires recently rewarded the talented footballer with a new and improved contract that runs until June 2021, but they didn’t quite manage to ward off interest in his services.
Namely, recent reports from Spain claim that Barcelona have made Weigl their primary target as they look to sign a holding midfielder to act as back-up to Sergio Busquets.
The Catalans are expected to make their interest concrete in the summer transfer window, but another top side might do the same.
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is a big fan of the 21-year-old, and he hopes to bring the midfielder to Etihad Stadium at the end of the current season.
The two sides will also be vying each other for the Champions League trophy, with Barcelona 10/3 favourites at the moment.
