Barcelona and Real Madrid are keeping tabs on Libertad striker Mauro Caballero, Paraguayan newspaper Diario Popular has revealed.
The 17-year-old is regarded as one of the hottest prospects in South America and his talent has already been spotted by top European clubs.
According to Diario Popular, Barcelona and Real Madrid have now joined the race for the highly rated forward.
Caballero largely impressed at the Under-17 South America Championship in 2011, scoring five goals in the process.
He has since earned a starting berth at Libertad and already scored two goals in this year’s Copa Libertadores.
The player’s representative revealed last month that he had been in touch with a number of high-profile clubs, thus adding fuel to speculations that his client could leave Paraguay at the end of the season.
Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Benfica have also shown interest in Caballero, who could be the subject of a real bidding war in the summer.
