In the last four years, Barcelona signed two Liverpool stars for big money. Following the Reds’ ultimately doomed push for the 2013/14 Premier League title, the Catalans swooped in and signed Luis Suarez for a reported £75million, and after a long and wearying saga, they also snatched Philippe Coutinho in January this year for £142million.
However, according to Sky Sports, Liverpool sporting director Michael Edwards insisted that a special clause be inserted into the Coutinho deal, preventing Barcelona from signing any more Liverpool players before 2020, unless they want to pay a premium of £90million on top of any agreed deal.
Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah both signed new contract with the Merseyside club this season, but Sadio Mane still hasn’t. Quite expectedly, media outlets in Spain have been quick to suggest the Senegalese forward would follow in the footsteps of Suarez and Coutinho, but if true, this latest discovery should be enough to prevent that from happening any time soon.
