Barcelona’s confidence of signing Matthijs de Ligt from Ajax is growing on a daily basis, according to Sport. The Catalan outlet report that the obstacles for the young centre-back moving to Camp Nou are being cleared one by one, and the move is edging closer.
Club president Josep Maria Bartomeu recently confirmed Barca’s interest in de Ligt, and reiterated that all players of that level of talent who play for clubs other than Barcelona are constantly being monitored, not only de Ligt. Finances were named as a potential stumbling block, but Sport claim that their sources have informed them that money should not be an issue.
Another worry they had was the fact that de Ligt was afraid of not getting enough game-time with Gerard Pique, Samuel Umtiti and Clement Lenglet all favorites to remain ahead of him in the pecking order, but Barcelona have apparently made a bold promise to the Dutchman that he would be guaranteed a starting spot for years to come.
