Barcelona have denied reports in the German press that they had a deal in place to sign Luka Jović, currently on loan at Eintracht Frankfurt from Benfica.
In their attempt to secure a backup for striker Luis Suarez, the Catalans have secured the services of Kevin Prince Boateng, on loan from Sassuolo for the rest of the season. However, they are still in need of a solution in the form of a player capable of not only deputizing for the brilliant 32-year-old Uruguayan, but also stepping in as a long-term successor when the time comes.
Jović has truly impressed in the Bundesliga this season, netting 14 times in 19 games; 19 in 27 in all competitions. Real Madrid are reportedly also interested in signing the 21-year-old Serbian striker, and a transfer-related “El Clasico” might develop over him.
German outlet The Frankfuerte Allgemeine reported on Monday that Barcelona had a deal in place, but Sport now claim the Catalans have denied that. They do, however, believe that they would be in pole position should they step up their interest, and they are keeping in contact with Jović’s representatives.
