Barcelona chiefs are afraid they might lose Dani Alves to free-spending Manchester City as the player has yet to sign a new deal at Camp Nou.
City have been keeping tabs on the Brazil full-back for quite a while and they were prepared to bid for his services but he was instead expected to sign a contract extension with Barcelona.
Nevertheless, after the contract talks stalled, Barca officials now fear of losing Alves as he could follow the footsteps of Yaya Toure and get a much better deal at Eastlands.
With Alves’ contract at Camp Nou expiring in June 2012, the Catalans expect City to make a £30 million offer in January that would be hard to refuse.
Last week, the player’s agent, Joaquin Macanas said: “Dani is one of the best defenders in the world and the big clubs desire his services. We only ask that Barca value him in reality for his work and development during these years.”
