Barca home record ´insulting, says Levante boss

Levante coach Juan Ignacio Martinez said Barcelona are so dominant at home that it is “insulting” to other teams.

Martinez made the comments after watching Barcelona thrash his side 5-0 at the Camp Nou, meaning Pep Guardiola’s side have had eight wins and one draw in their nine home games this season, scoring 39 goals and conceding none in the process.

Levante have enjoyed their best start to a season in recent memory, but they proved no match for the Catalan juggernaut.

“We wanted to frustrate them for as long as possible but conceded an early goal,” Martinez told Marca.

“We competed to the end and I felt that the team never gave up.”

“You don’t get many chances at Camp Nou, but a side leading 39 goals to zero (at home) is a bit insulting to the other teams.”

“They’re a team who monopolise the ball which, in recent years, has won everything.”

“We leave with our heads held high, but with five in the bag.”

Barca now face a purely-academic Champions League fixture at home to BATE on Tuesday, having already won their group, and are turning their attentions towards December 10, when they play a potentially-decisive Clasico against Real Madrid, and Martinez expects a close game.

“I am a mere spectator but it seems very level,” he said.

“Everyone speaks well of Madrid and they are at home, but Barca never give up and there is a mutual respect.”

Levante, who have defied expectations so far this season and are currently fourth in La Liga, now look ahead to their next match at home to Sevilla on Saturday.
