Barcelona would appear to be in pole position for 27 year old, Russian playmaker, Andrei Arshavin. A report from Setanta Sports has confirmed that Zenit St Petersburg has had a formal proposal from the Catalan giants for the midfielder.
Arshavin seems to have somewhat upstaged Cristiano Ronaldo as the most talked about player in Europe, as his performances at Euro 2008 have significantly boosted his profile.
It was widely expected that Arshavin would head to England this summer, with the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, Everton, Manchester City and Newcastle strongly linked with his services.
However, after voicing his “dream†to play at the Camp Nou, Guardiola and company have now been thrust into the spotlight and a move to sign the player seemed inevitable.
Arshavin’s dream may soon become reality as Zenit claim the Spaniards have opened the lines of communication.
â€ÂBarcelona has made a formal proposal to Zenit for the purchase of Arshavin,†Zenit sporting director Konstantin Sarsaniya told Sovietski Sport.
Reports suggest Zenit want around €15 million for Arshavin, but there may still be hope for the interested parties from England.
