Athletic Bilbao star man Javi Martinez has entered talks with Barcelona over a possible move to the Nou Camp, that’s according to Talk Sport.
Martinez was superb for the Basque country side last season, helping them to both the Copa Del Rey and Europa League final.
He is attracted attention from plenty of clubs in this summer’s transfer window but Barcelona could be the team that win the race to secure his services.
New boss at the La Liga side Tito Vilanova is an apparent admirer of Martinez, who can play in both defence or midfield so would certainly add versatility to the squad.
There could be a stumbling block though. Bilbao are set to want something around the £30 million mark for Martinez, something the Catalan side may not be able to afford, especially after signing Jordi Alba earlier in the summer.
Vilanova could now look to offer one of his players to Bilbao in order to bring the transfer fee down.
Should the asking price be too much, then Manchester City may make a move for the Spanish international as they are also keen on bringing him to the Ethiad Stadium and as we know, have the finances to do so.
We shall see.
