Barcelona and Real Madrid are locked in the battle for Borussia Dortmund playmaker Ilkay Gundogan, reports El Confidencial.
The highly rated midfielder has a contract until June 2015 at Signal-Iduna Park, and club chief Hans-Joachim Watzke recently admitted the player’s long-term future was in doubt.
As a result, Barcelona and Real Madrid are showing interest in the 23-year-old, with both sides searching for midfield reinforcements.
According to El Confidencial, los Blancos lead the chase at the moment, although their rivals are also stepping up their efforts.
The same source has suggested that the player’s father is set to meet with Barcelona officials in the coming weeks.
Ilkay Gundogan continues to miss out through a back injury, with no return date available at the moment.
And with Borussia now ten points adrift of league leaders Bayern Munich, it is no wonder they are priced at 18/1 to win the league title.
