(GSM) – Arsenal boss, Arsene Wenger has come to the defence of Thierry Henry after the Arsenal legend came under heavy criticism in Spain for focusing excessively on his welcome from fans when he returned to the Emirates.

The striker was a second-half substitute for Barcelona as the Catalans drew 2-2 in the Champions League Quarter-Final second leg at Emirates Stadium.

The former Gunner got a roaring reception when he was introduced but that provoked criticism in some parts of the Spanish media.

However, Wenger feels that was unfair and says he was delighted with the way Arsenal fans welcomed their former hero.

“I think Barcelona can be proud that a player who plays for them has such a great welcome at Arsenal,” he said.

Gunner’s boss delighted over reception, “I personally am very proud that Arsenal welcomed him like they did. In England we have one quality – a good memory and that is why we respect tradition as well.”

“He had some fantastic years at Arsenal and he should not be criticised if he gets a good reception when he comes back,” he praised.
