Barca sign Mascherano

(GSM) – Barcelona have completed the signing of Javier Mascherano from Liverpool on a four-year deal.

The 26-year-old had been a transfer target for Barca since last summer and the midfielder was finally able to make the move when the clubs agreed a fee last week.

Mascherano had refused to feature in Liverpool’s 3-0 defeat to Manchester City days earlier.

The club confirmed he had passed a medical on Monday morning and first-team doctor Ricard Pruna said the player is in peak condition.

“It was an exhaustive medical that lasted around five hours,” he told Barca TV. “He is in excellent condition and is physically great. His cardiovascular level is perfect and he is a player who has had very few injuries.”

He signed the deal on Monday evening and his release clause has been set at €90 million.
