Barcelona have been linked with a host of strikers as they continue their search for a suitable backup for Luis Suarez following the sale of Munir El Haddadi to Sevilla. Chelsea’s Alvaro Morata, who has been heavily linked with Atletico Madrid too, was reported as the Catalan club’s preferred option, while his teammate Olivier Giroud and Girona’s Christian Stuani have also been mentioned.
However, Cadena Ser claim otherwise, as relayed by Sport. The Spanish outlet believe it is actually Carlos Vela of Los Angeles FC that Barcelona want.
Having played a season for each Salamanca and Osasuna, Vela spent four years in the Premier League, three with Arsenal and the fourth with West Bromwich Albion, before returning to Spain and joining Real Sociedad in 2011. Six years later, it was agreed he would move to the MLS to join his current club. The move materialized on January 1, 2018, after he had made his 250th appearance and scored his 73rd goal for Sociedad. He has also played 71 games and scored 19 goals as a Mexico international.
The 29-year-old was named in the MLS Best XI in November 2018.
