Barca to allow Messi to decide on contract

According to a recent report from Mundo Deportivo, La Liga champions Barcelona will allow Lionel Messi to decide when the talks will begin on his new contract. His current deal is set to expire in 2021, with the expectation being that he will be offered a lifetime contract – meaning that he will almost certainly retire at Barca.

The Argentine sensation is still considered to be the best player in world football, and while there have been a few instances in which it looked like he could stray away from the club, it doesn’t seem at all likely at this point in time. There’s always a chance it could happen, but given what everyone knows about him and his style, it still feels like there’s more he wants to accomplish.

In terms of the bigger picture, it seems as if he really wants to secure an international trophy of some kind before he hangs it up for good.
