According to Catalan outlet Sport, Barcelona are considering a move for the services of in-demand Bayer Leverkusen head coach Xabi Alonso at the end of the season, with Xavi Hernandez set to leave the club.
Having played for Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Liverpool, Alonso has been linked with all three clubs over the recent months, due to his team not only topping the Bundesliga table at the moment, but also playing a very exciting brand of football. But as things stand at the moment, only one of them – Liverpool – will need a new man in the dugout. Like Xavi, Jurgen Klopp will also be leaving his current employers this summer.
But Barcelona also admire Alonso, and they apparently see his appointment as a possibility to deal a heavy blow to arch-rivals Real, where the former midfielder spent six very successful seasons, and like Liverpool, they will soon need someone new to take charge of the team.
