According to Sport, Barcelona’s concern about the prospect of losing Samuel Umtiti is growing.
Since the arrival of the centre-back, much defensive stability has been added to the attacking brilliance of the Blaugrana, and their team has been much more balanced. They would, therefore, be extremely reluctant to part ways with such an important player.
Barca have already initiated talks to improve his current deal, which expires in 2021 and includes a €60 milli0n release clause, but the negotiations aren’t going to the club’s plan. Umtiti’s excellent performances have caught the eyes of other big clubs and he reportedly has lucrative offers from elsewhere on the table.
Barca’s belief that their club is “the dream of every player” has already been shaken by the departure of Neymar to Paris Saint-Germain last summer, and even with the world-record fee in their pockets, they are left with a sour taste in their mouth because of it. Umtiti’s potential decision to leave, should his rather affordable release clause be activated, would certainly add to the feeling.
