Barcelona’s efforts to tie Marc-Andre ter Stegen down with a new contract have reportedly hit a stumbling block.
That is according to Spanish journalist Ignasi Oliva Gispert, who claims, in his report for Goal.com, that the 27-year-old goalkeeper wants his wages to surpass those of any other player at the club apart from superstar captain Lionel Messi. He is asking for €15 million a year. It certainly wouldn’t be the first time the German has asked for more recognition of his work, having recently hit out at the fact that Bayern Munich’s Manuel Neuer is still the number one choice between the posts for his national side.
However, it seems the La Liga champions aren’t prepared to meet Ter Stegen’s demands at the moment. They don’t question his contribution to the cause, but they’re pointing at the Financial Fair Play regulations as the main reason they cannot afford to offer what he wants.
Ter Stegen has recently been linked with Chelsea, who are reportedly monitoring the situation closely as they search for a new man to replace Kepa Arrizabalaga.
