La Liga champions Barcelona have been hit by an injury crisis which left them with only two centre-backs – Gerard Pique and Clement Langlet.
The Catalans will have to do without both Samuel Umtiti and Thomas Vermaelen who sustained a thigh injury during the international duty and it is being speculated that Barcelona officials will make certain moves during the January transfer window to reinforce their backline.
Several names have already popped up – including a surprising link to former Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic – but the latest reports suggest that the Catalans have compiled quite a list of possible targets.
Barcelona are said to be focusing on low-cost alternatives to their primary target – Matthijs de Ligt – with Mundo Deportivo suggesting that Benedikt Howedes, Holger Badstuber and Neven Subotic have come into play.
It seems highly unlikely that any of the aforementioned players would end up at Camp Nou during winter with Catalans also tracking Djene Dakonam from Getafe and Athletic Bilbao’s Unai Nunez.
