Manchester City’s Eric Garcia has refused to discuss a new contract with the current one expiring next year, and declared to the club that he wants to leave the Etihad now, manager Pep Guardiola openly confirmed some time ago. The young defender has been heavily linked with Barcelona, where he went through the early youth ranks before joining City’s U-18 side in 2017. He was promoted to the first team after the departure of Vincent Kompany, but he’s now apparently keen to return to the club where his football journey began.
Barcelona are currently going through a transition phase and planning for the future, and according to Sport, they’ve offered the Premier League runners-up a sum of €8 million, plus €2m in potential add-ons for Garcia. They see him as a good candidate to in the long run succeed Gerard Pique, another one who in his youth spent some time in Manchester (at United) before returning to Camp Nou.
However, City’s initial demand for the 19-year-old stands at €40m. It is expected to drop to half the amount, which is still twice as much as the Catalans have offered with add-ons.
