Out-of-favour Chelsea defender and Serbia captain Branislav Ivanovic has been formally approached by the Spanish champions Barcelona, according to reports from the Spanish media outlet Cadena Ser.
The experienced 32-year-old has so far made seven Premier League appearances for the Blues as he has fallen out of grace with Chelsea new manager Antonio Conte and could be given an unlikely escape route when the transfer window reopens in January.
Ivanovic has kept his place in the Serbia set-up during the November international duty and his fine displays have demonstrated that the versatile defender still has plenty to offer on the biggest stage.
Barcelona believe Ivanovic could be a valuable asset and a proper replacement for Aleix Vidal who is nearing a January exit at Camp Nou.
Ivanovic is able to fill in a number of roles in the back four and is believed to have the ability to fit in nicely within the Luis Enrique’s side.
