Barcelona challenge Manchester United for Blind

El Mundo Deportivo is reporting that Barcelona have plans to recruit Ajax full-back Daley Blind in the summer transfer window.

The Catalans have finally reinforced their back line by signing Jeremy Mathieu from Valencia, but it appears they want the Dutch defender as well.

New Barcelona coach Luis Enrique has been impressed by Blind and his versatility, although Ajax’s €22 million asking price could prove to be a problem.

The Amsterdammers sporting director and former Barcelona player Marc Overmars is expected to fly to Catanlunya in the coming days to find out what the Catalans have to offer.

Meanwhile, Manchester United remain strong contenders for the Netherlands international, with Red Devils manager Louis van Gaal a big fan of the 24-year-old footballer.

After helping Ajax claim their fourth successive league title, Blind started all seven games as Oranje achieved a third place finish at the 2014 World Cup, scoring a goal in the last game against Brazil.
