Napoli star striker Dries Mertens is enjoying a rich vein of form in Serie A and his prolific run has attracted plenty of attention from Europe’s biggest sides.
Manchester United have already been credited with interest for the 30-year-old Belgium but the latest reports coming from the Italian media outlet Il Corriere del Mezzagiorno claim that Chelsea and Barcelona have also joined the race.
Mertens’ affordable release clause which currently stands at €28 million and could rise to €33 million if Napoli win the Serie A crown is said to be the main reason why the Premier League champions and the Catalan giants have turned their attention towards the Belgian international.
Partenopei forward has excelled under the guidance of Maurizio Sarri and already has seven goals to his name in as many Serie A appearances which comes as a great continuation to his last season’s numbers – 28 goals in 35 league matches.
Should he maintain the level of performances he currently enjoys there is no doubt that his low release clause will attract plenty of more interest in his services.
