Barcelona claimed their second piece of silverware in 10 days after beating Portuguese champions FC Porto 2-0 in the European Super Cup.
This victory comes hot on the heels of the Catalan club claiming the Spanish Super Cup.
Winning
Barcelona now have such a fantastic winning mentality.
When a team with the quality of player Barcelona has a winning mentality then they are hard to stop. The two Super Cup’s are unlikely to be the last trophies that the club pick up this season.
These victories just adds to the idea that Barcelona could be best club side in the history of game. Trophies wise they are up there with the best. If they claim the La Liga title this season then they will equal Johan Cruyff’s dream team record of four domestic titles in a row.
Boss
Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola has always been a winner. He was part of that famous Barcelona team coached by the aforementioned Johan Cruyff. He won the European Cup once as a player but has done even better as a coach claiming the trophy twice.
Although Barcelona have fantastic players its taken Pep Guardiola’s calm and stable managerial style to keep the club winning and staying at the top of their game. Every season he is adding credence to the claim that he is one of the best bosses club football has ever seen.
It seems incredible but Guardiola’s future at the Nou Camp is never certain. Not because the club wants to get rid of him but because you sense that he feels he has achieved everything he can at the club. That could be a key reason to him only signing 12 month extensions to his contracts.
The talented boss has never made any secret of his liking of the Premier League and the English top flight could be his next destination. However there is only a few clubs big enough to be able to attract the Spaniard.
I believe he will wait for the right challenge to come along before he leaves Barcelona. For now though I’m sure he will be concentrating on increasing the number of trophies in the clubs trophy cabinet.
Cesc
New arrival Cesc Fabregas scored the second goal in the 2-0 defeat of Porto and he must now be in dream land. He must feel like a man whose been starved of food, only to be handed a feast. In just 10 days he’s claimed two trophies, after more than six years without a trophy at Arsenal.
I’m sure this is only the start of the trophy winning for the Spanish international. He’s likely to be picking up bigger and more important trophies in the future with the European champions.
Strong
Barcelona have looked very strong in recent seasons and with the additions of Cesc Fabregas and Alexis Sanchez the squad is even stronger. The current Barcelona team will go down as one of the best clubs sides ever.
If they keep adding to their trophy collection though they will have a very valid claim. One thing that is for sure though is that they are the best team of their generation.
Is this current Barcelona team the best you have ever seen?
