According to Sport, Barcelona are considering cooling their interest in Manchester City star Bernardo Silva and turning their attention to Paris Saint-Germain’s Xavi Simons, who is currently on loan at RB Leipzig.
The 21-year-old midfielder apparently isn’t too keen on returning to the Parc des Princes, while PSG aren’t too keen on selling him. But it is believed that if Simons pushes for an exit, a transfer is likely to happen, and this is where Barcelona see their chance.
While Silva, at the age of 29, is obviously a fully established top-class player who has been linked with Barcelona for a long time now, it’s clear why acquiring Simons, whose talent is catching many eyes across Europe, would make more sense in terms of building a team for the future.
The young attacking midfielder has played 42 matches for Leipzig in all competitions this season, scoring nine goals and contributing 15 assists, and helping Marco Rose’s team secure a top-four finish in the Bundesliga with a game to spare.
