Barcelona have denied reports linking them with a move for River Plate head coach Marcelo Gallardo, as revealed by Sport.
The Catalan giants have been having a shaky season, riddled with disappointing result, especially away from home. After seven rounds in La Liga, they trail their arch-rivals, league leaders Real Madrid by two points, with Atletico Madrid and, surprisingly enough, Granada, squeezed in between, while Real Sociedad and Sevilla sit directly below with the same tally as Barcelona.
Naturally, with things being so tight at the top, nothing is lost yet and everything could turn around quickly, but the reports of issues both on and off the pitch that have shaken the club have recently been fuelled further with hints that the job of head coach Ernesto Valverde could be in jeopardy.
Over in Argentina, TNT journalist Fernando Czyz has claimed that Gallardo was the leading candidate to replace Valverde in the Barcelona dugout, should the club decide to part ways with Valverde.
However, Barcelona are adamant that there isn’t a grain of truth in such claims and that they’ve never contacted Gallardo.
