Schalke midfielder Leon Goretzka will be out of contract next summer and he is a player who is on the radar of many of Europe’s top clubs, including Manchester United.
Catalonian super club Barcelona had also been linked with the German youngster but, according to Manchester Evening News, they have ended their pursuit as they do not believe the player is ready for the pressures of playing for the world famous club.
Branded ‘the talent of the century’ by Peter Neururer, his manager at VfL Bochum, the all-rounded midfielder is already a Confederations Cup winner at the tender age of 22. He has also started this season strongly with four goals in all competitions for Schalke.
Manchester United have been linked with several midfielders, principally because Michael Carrick’s contract expires next summer, and Goretzka is amongst one of the most impressive and versatile young midfielders in world football right now.
Mourinho will still have to fend off interest from the likes of Schalke’s Bundesliga rivals Bayern Munich if he intends to sign the young midfielder, but Manchester United are on the path back to the top of European football and could they could provide an appealing opportunity for the player.
