Barcelona are resigned to losing Lionel Messi to Manchester City on a free transfer next summer, according to the Mirror.
The Argentine superstar came very close to leaving the Camp Nou this summer, but as differences of opinion relating to his release clause arose, he was reluctant take ‘the club he loves’ to court and he ended up staying put. However, his contract expires at the end of this season and nobody expects him to sign a new one at this point.
It means he will likely leave as a free agent next summer, and given that he was heavily linked with City in the past, he is expected to make the Etihad switch and sign a very lucrative deal there.
Barca boss Ronald Koeman is apparently pleased with the way the 33-year-old has responded to being forced to remain at the club, but he has already accepted that he won’t be working with the six-time Ballon d’Or for much longer.
