Barcelona eyeing Vidal replacement

The Catalans are exploring their options after full-back Aleix Vidal was ruled out for the season through an ankle problem, Sport can reveal.

The former Sevilla star was unfortunate to dislocate his ankle shortly after returning to the first team plans of head coach Luis Enrique, leaving the boss in problems ahead of the business end to the season.

Barcelona have the option to ask Spanish Football Federation to register a new player due to Vidal’s injury, but he would not be eligible for the Champions League campaign.

According to Sport, Barcelona are looking at Joao Cancelo (Valencia), Mario Gaspar (Villarreal), Michel Macedo (Las Palmas), Ander Capa (Eibar) and Jonny Castro (Celta Vigo).

On top of that, the Catalans may try to hijack Southampton’s move for free agent Martin Caceres, who has already agreed to join the Saints, but is waiting for a UK work permit to complete the move to St Mary’s.
