Bordeaux winger Malcom was set to seal a move to Serie A behemoths AS Roma when La Liga champions Barcelona swooped in with an eleventh-hour offer in an attempt to hijack the deal.
The Ligue 1 side had previously confirmed an agreement with Giallorossi was in place over a €36 million deal but it seems that Barcelona decided to shift their focus away from Chelsea man Willian and submit a late offer for Malcom instead.
The late Monday bid appeared to have cancelled the flight plans that were supposed to take Malcom to the Italian capital and the flamboyant Brazilian remained in France where a €41 million deal, plus bonuses, is being negotiated.
Bordeax are now expected to bide their time hoping to initiate a bidding war in the hope that more clubs could choose to join the race.
Malcom’s transfer is turning into quite a saga with AS Roma becoming the second Italian club to be left in the limbo after Inter Milan who also had an agreement in place with the player himself a couple of months ago.
