Barcelona interest in Bale confirmed

Barcelona have made official inquiry into the availability of Tottenham midfielder Gareth Bale, according to Catalan daily Sport.

The Welsh midfielder has been attracting interest from major European clubs with his scintillating performances at White Hart Lane, and Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola is a keen admirer of the player.

He has instructed the club chiefs to try and sign the 22-year-old winger, and the Catalans officials are doing their best to bring the player to Camp Nou.

Spanish daily Sport claims that Barcelona official Andoni Zubizarreta has told them that the official approach for the highly rated midfielder has been made.

The newspaper reveals that the Barcelona sporting director first contacted Bale’s representatives in October last year.

Zubizarreta then traveled to London in November, where he met with Tottenham senior executives and was informed that Spurs are not willing to negotiate the sale of their star player.

However, even if Barcelona failed to edge closer to signing the Welshman, the Catalans did manage to establish a contact with the London club and they believe that will prove useful when Spurs ultimately decide to cash in on their prized asset.
