According to AS, Barcelona have joined the list of clubs interested in signing Kalvin Phillips from Manchester City this month, which also includes Juventus, Crystal Palace and Newcastle, though some reports suggest the latter have pulled out of that race.
Be that as it may, it seems City’s asking price for the 26-year-old midfielder represents a significant obstacle for potential suitors, and they’ve therefore decided to sound out a possible loan deal. Yet, even that is said to be rather expensive, with the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League holders asking for £7 million just to loan him out for the remainder of the current season.
Phillips obviously has no place in Pep Guardiola’s plans and that’s a situation that certainly doesn’t go with his hopes of representing England at the upcoming Euros. Despite the current asking price, his departure from the Etihad feels imminent, and it is in his own best interest that it happens now, rather than in the summer.
