The Daily Mail is reporting this morning that Barcelona and Arsenal are locked in a battle to sign Toulouse midfielder Etienne Capoue.
The interest from Arsenal has been well documented in the last week or so after Arsene Wenger admitted defeat in his quest to sign Rennes midfielder Yann M’Vila.
Wenger wants to add to his midfield this summer and now Capoue is considered as one of his main targets.
However, the latest development is that Spanish giants Barcelona are also interested. With Seydou Keita on his way to China, they are after a like for like replacement at a decent price.
In terms of the type of player Capoue is, he is 23-years-old and more often than not takes up a defensive role in midfield.
With the counter attacking football both Arsenal and Barcelona play, you can see why they would target a holding player like Capoue.
The Frenchman – who is yet to make his debut for his national team – is at a great age for a big move too, so it will be interesting to see how this one develops.
There is no doubt that when Barcelona are after a player though, their reputation automatically puts them as favourites.
However, Wenger is widely respected in French football and would back himself to convince Capoue that the Emirates is the place for him.
