Catalan daily newspaper Sport has learned that Barcelona are keeping close tabs on Fiorentina full-back Marcos Alonso.
The 25-year-old has kick started his career at Artemio Franchi and has been one of Viola’s star performers this season.
His impressive showings clearly did not go unnoticed as the latest reports suggest that mighty Barcelona are interested in his services.
The Catalans coach Luis Enrique wants Alonso to challenge Jordi Alba for a regular starting berth and he is expected to come forward with an official proposal ahead of the summer transfer window.
The interesting thing is that the highly rated footballer had come through the youth ranks at Real Madrid, but he only made one substitute appearance in La Liga before joining Bolton Wanderers.
His former club and potential employers will square off on Saturday in the El Clasico derby, with Barcelona 4/7 favourites to emerge victorious.
